An RPG is a game based on the traditional pen-and-paper RPGs. The main element of an RPG is character progression, both in story and in game play. A good example of an RPG is Adventure Quest (and it's sequels, Dragon Fable, Mech Quest, and Adventure Quest Worlds.) One of the most popular free RPGs is the Sonny series. Zelda is Not an RPG, despite popular belief. It is an adventure game.
