list of annoying words and phrases
Being that there are a lot of purposefully English-challenged people on various game design forums, we have put together this partial list of words and phrases that could annoy the people who could help you. If you are seeking help with something do not use these words and phrases
Speaking English as a second language is one thing, and is most excusable. However, when you try to be cool by using these words are phrases, the older members on the board will label you as a snot-nosed loser kid and probably ignore you. Here they are :
- 1
- If it's a number, that's fine. Otherwise use one.
- 2
- If it's a number, that's fine. Otherwise use to or too.
- 4
- If it's a number, that's fine. Otherwise use for. Its only three little letters.
- 4EVA
- Use for ever. Older, more skilled game developers think "for Eva". Then they think "Who's Eva?"
- 733t
- Never use this. You are not elite, and we know it.
- Codes
- Use code. Programming isn't like typing in a series of buttons to get invincibility. Code is code, it's like sheep, there is no plural. All the code in your game make up —- all the code in your game. More functions to not add up to codes.
- Cos
- Mathematical function.
- Cuz
- See Cos.
- Da
- Use the. You're probably not from New York, but you might be a babbling baby.
- Dun
- Use don't.
- Gud
- You're not Jim Carey. You're not Bruce Almighty. Use good.
- Kewl
- Use cool. Kewl is not cool.
- I like broccoli!
- Who cares?
- Plz
- Use please. If you misspell it, it's not good manners.
- Ppl
- This is not a real abbreviation recognized by anyone but simpletons. Use people.
- Sum
- Use some.
- Sum1
- Band name? No, use someone.
- U
- Use you. Is it really that hard to type two more letters? Using this tells us you are lazy and not worthy of our help.
- W8
- Use wait, or people will wait to help you solve your problem.
- M8
- Mate means in some countries like buddy, friend etc. We're ok with that sentence but use the word mate instead of M8, wich is annoying and makes you look like a teenage jerk.
- Wanna
- Use want. Do you wanna hurt me? Do you, do you wanna? No, absolutely not. (younger readers will not get the first reference.)
- Wot
- Use what. We understand that some people from the United Kingdom pronounce what this way. However, they spell it the same way everyone else does.
- Wut
- Use what. Are you that lazy that you can't type one extra letter? (Change 'u' to 'ha')
- 1337
- See '733t'
- Rulez
- Use rules or rule. And you don't rule either.
- Sup?
- Ask what's up or ratherly How are you? or How's going?. If you ask sup? or What's up, we reply Roof.
