Arcade Games

An arcade game can be one of two things :

  1. A game that was released in the arcade.
  2. A game that follows early arcade game play.

Ball and Paddle Genre

Ball and paddle games, as a video game genre, were popular during the early days of video game systems and arcade game. A ball and paddle game is any game where the player hits a ball with a "paddle", which is usually just a rectangle.

The most famous of the ball and paddle games is Pong, which is also one of the first arcade games ever produced.

Other variations of the ball and paddle genre are :

Handball

Handball is the most simple variation on the ball and paddle genre. Like all ball and paddle games, it features a ball and a paddle, however, that's just about it. There are no blocks and there is no opponent. Instead, the player tries to keep the ball from moving off the bottom of the screen. The ball itself bounces off the top, left, and right sides of the screen, gaining speed each time the ball hits it. Points are awarded for every second the player manages to keep the ball "alive".
